The Centre for Cooperative Education, together with the Namibia German Centre for Logistics at the Polytechnic of Namibia participated and exhibited at the Ongwediva Trade Fair from 27thAugust 2012 – 01stSeptember 2012. The Trade Fair provided CCE with an opportunity to market the Centre, and its services offered to both students industry and public at large.
The Industry Liaison Officers Ms. Sophia Shuungula and Mr. Khumalo Kapelwa who represented CCE held discussions with students, industry exhibitors and general community explaining that CCE is a Centre of Excellence at the Polytechnic of Namibia mandated to build partnerships with industry, facilitate the internship placements process and to secure workplace sites for students to do Work Integrated Learning (WIL).
All stakeholders were further informed that the Centre provided a variety of services available to students and industry partners. Services to industry include assistance in identifying opportunities for internship placement, skills audit and mentorship training. Students benefit from internship placements and workshops offered to develop soft skills ensuring a “work ready” graduate.
It was noted by the ILO’s that most students and members of the public did not know the purpose of the Centre and its importance nor that Cooperative Education serves as a learning model of relevant, high quality higher education through collaboration with stakeholders to actively contribute towards skilled workforce in a future orientated Namibia. CCE plays a central role to educate leaders, to realise Vision 2030, and lead the skills transformation for the Namibian economy.
Lastly it is noted that most visitors to the Polytechnic stall were mainly students and parents who only enquired of study programmes offered at the Polytechnic and procedures for applications.
The Polytechnic of Namibia was awarded the trophy for the Best Exhibit in the Education Institution category.
